WHAT DO YOU DO AT FOREST SCHOOL?
Forest School is child-led so the group decides. This might include tree climbing, fire lighting, den building, building with tools, splitting wood, whittling, making rope swings, rope walks, story telling, water play, mud kitchen, trails and countless crafts, games and micro-experiences with no name.
DO I HAVE TO BOOK FOR THE WHOLE TERM?
Forest School Principles demand long term and regular sessions. As practitioners we see how important it is and how much children develop coming into a space and a group regularly, even (and sometimes especially) those who might find that space dfifficult at first. For that reason all of our bookings are for an entire term.
HOW CAN MY CHILD ATTEND DURING SCHOOL TIME?
Lots of our older children come because their schools allow them to ‘flexi-school’; taking time out for other activities. Ask your child’s teacher or head teacher about this and contact us if you’d like support. In reception schools have to allow flexi-schooling whereas in older years this is at the school’s discretion.
WHAT AM I PAYING FOR?
PlayfulLea sessions will always have two experienced Forest School Practitioners. We provide specialist equipment for children to fully explore the forest and themselves. We have years of experience facilitating children to develop socially and to benefit from the regular group. Our sessions are often in woodlands which are not accessible to the public and we develop management plans to ensure our impact on that space is sustainable. We are also trained in making expert risk-benefit assesments allowing your child to explore nature fully.
Please also take you child to play in the woods for free – they will probably engage with this more fully after being in our session too.
WHAT DO PARENTS DO DURING SESSIONS?
We have more freedom as practitioners because we are not Ofsted registered. This means we need you to stay on site, but you do not have to be in the sessions. We will have a space where you can enjoy our natural settings or catch up with tasks. While your child is settling you may wish to spend some of the session-time with your child although we encourage you to gradually step back as this often allows your child to engage more fully with the group.
WHO COMES TO YOUR SESSIONS?
Sessions are for children aged 3+. We have a mixture of pre-school, home-schooled and flexi-schooling children.
